Our Process:
Designed for Peace of Mind

At Wood Outdoor Living, we believe your backyard transformation should feel exciting—not overwhelming. That’s why we follow a step-by-step design + build process tailored to homeowners throughout Coeur d’Alene and North Idaho. From the first meeting to the final walkthrough, our proven approach ensures your vision becomes reality—with clarity, craftsmanship, and care every step of the way.

We only take on one project at a time, which means your outdoor living space gets our full attention from start to finish. With clear communication, detailed planning, and a commitment to quality, you’ll always know what’s happening and what comes next.

What to Expect

1. Initial Consultation

Reach out to us! Use our contact form below or email directly to office@woodoutdoorliving.com.  Include your wishlist, budget, timeline, and any other details you want us to consider. Within 48 hours, we will contact you to gather a site survey and any additional information to better understand your project before any in person visits. This helps us ensure we are fully prepared to meet your needs and expectations.

2. Site Visit

After reviewing your survey from the initial consultation, we'll schedule a site visit. During this visit, we'll introduce ourselves, see the project site, answer any additional questions you may have, and gather measurements and photos needed to complete your design. This step ensures that we have all the necessary information to proceed with your project while adhering to local jurisdiction regulations.

3. Design & Estimate

A thoughtfully designed project proposal and rendering will be sent to you via email. The proposal will include a job contract, material selections, and optional add-ons for your approval.  We offer up to three revisions to ensure the design meets your expectations. Once the design and all selections have been approved and the deposit has been paid, we’ll schedule your project on the Wood Outdoor Living calendar and begin the permitting process.

4. Construction

Initial payment is due two weeks prior to your project start date. During the build, materials will be delivered directly to the jobsite by our suppliers.

As applicable, a tool trailer, dumpster, and any other essential equipment will be stored onsite for the duration of the project. Please ensure there is adequate accessibility to accommodate them and note that access to onsite power will also be required. Progress payments will be accepted as outlined in the payment terms.

5. Completion

After all build phases are finished and inspections are passed, a final walk through will be scheduled to ensure your satisfaction.  Upon final walk through and project reveal, the job will be considered complete and the final payment will be accepted.

Now, you can use your new outdoor living space to get outdoors with the people you love!

FAQ's

  • We proudly serve Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Rathdrum, and surrounding areas in North Idaho. If you're close to the Kootenai County border, we may also work in select parts outside the region. Reach out with your location, and we’ll let you know if you’re within our service zone.

  • Yes, most structural projects like decks, patio covers, and outdoor kitchens require permits depending on size, elevation, and city regulations. The good news? We handle all permitting and inspections for you, ensuring your project is fully compliant from start to finish.

  • Costs vary based on materials, size, and complexity. A small paver patio may start around $5,000, while custom composite decks or full backyard transformations can range from $25,000 to $100,000+. We provide detailed estimates and 3D design mockups to match your vision and budget.

  • We use high-quality materials built to withstand the North Idaho climate. For decking, we prefer TimberTech and other top-rated composites. For patios, we install durable pavers or concrete. Lighting, kitchens, and landscaping are all crafted with premium products to ensure longevity and style.

  • Project timelines vary depending on size and weather conditions. Smaller patios or fire features may take 1-2 weeks. Full-scale outdoor living builds, including decks, lighting, and kitchens, may take 6–8 weeks. We only take on one project at a time, so your build gets our full attention.

  • Yes! We are a design-build company, which means we begin every project with a custom 2D or 3D design. This allows you to visualize your space before we ever break ground. It also ensures the entire process is efficient, accurate, and tailored to your lifestyle.

  • We stand behind our craftsmanship. Most of our materials come with manufacturer warranties, and we provide a workmanship guarantee to ensure your investment is protected. If something’s not right, we’ll make it right.

  • Definitely. Many clients choose to build their backyard in phases — starting with a deck or patio and adding features like lighting, fire pits, or outdoor kitchens later. Our design process keeps future phases in mind so everything works seamlessly together.

  • Our schedule varies seasonally, and we book up quickly, especially during spring and summer. We recommend contacting us early to secure your spot — even if you’re planning months in advance. A design today can lead to a build when you're ready.

  • We’re not just contractors — we’re a full-service outdoor living team. From the first design draft to the last screw installed, you’ll have one point of contact (the owner, Braden), focused on your project alone. No bouncing between crews or rushed timelines. Just personalized service, premium quality, and a backyard built the right way.
